King Loses

People Win, King Loses. Now What?

The Nepal king who took over the power in February 2005, annouced yesterday that he would restore the country’s parliament which he had dissolved about more than three years ago. He vowed to return multiparty democracy after weeks of bloddy protests and international pressure.
In his words:
“We call on the seven parties to take on the responsibility
for protecting multi-party democracy,
lasting peace and national unity and for taking the country towards progress”
So what lies ahead for Nepalese and their politicians, and where does the role of Maoists fit within in this so called victory. People are already asking questions to themselves, …so Now what?
Some folks say, its repeating it again. Something like this happened before and we had it. It was so cool the thing called `The multi-party democracy’
It brought us beautiful cars running in the streets of Kathmandu carrying our handsome politicians to our fabulous Singha Durbar everyday. We will get to see it again. We can again listen to the most amazing news `Parliament” on Nepal Radio and TV, I promise you, all of us will not fall asleep listening to it! Parliament session was when reporters needed hangouts with politicians for chats, tea, cookies. And of course, it was the time for Politicians to earn Parliament Bonus as they worked so corruption free! Then we did not bred any corruption and deadly Maoists, they came from another planet!
Ministers came, and went, and Prime Ministers were picked by this one or that one, or we voted at times, we think we did or we don’t remember or we do not care now. We blamed this PM or that PM for the rise of Maoists. And the King took over Multi-Party Democracy, and here he is back again, giving it to us just like his brother, King Birendra gave it to us the `Multi-Party Democracy’
So what again? Is this multi-party democracy any different than one we had before? Where do Maoists fit into this democracy? and what’s in it for the millions of poor Nepalese who are chanting today “Long Live Our People’s Democracy” with empty stomaches. Is it really a new one? Are our opposition parties united to carry on from here or are they just united for this day only? Will there be an investigation into misconduct by Police and Armies in recent times? And? And? .. everyone’s got many many questions of now what?

I think the country is headed for yet another war. Maoists won’t let the new government do anything. So all those who are cheering and shouting “Long Live our Democracy” is useless….
Wait and see what happens even in less than a few days from now…… Maoists won’t let you do anything! So the new government will be nothing more than what King’s Government was.
Take care you all.
