Students With Cattles and Babies

Writing by indu on Saturday, 28 of January , 2006 at 11:44 pm

In hill it is very difficult to grow enough food for the family, and no job is available near to their localities to raise money for the food. Therefore their father have to go to India to find the jobs for several months in a year and during that period mother has to look after her children , cattle, fodder for cattle and arrangement of fire woods, and drinking water from water sources which may be far away from the house. Some area it may take hours and hours to fetch 20 liters of water in a copper jar (Gagri in Nepali) My Grandmother use to get up early in morning before 3 a.m.to grind corn and millet to prepare flour. She uses home made grinder made of two stones, upper part with a stick to rotate it by hand, while a hole in the center of the stone takes grains in.

While she keeps herself busy doing all household works, children have to go school which are also located at far far places. Sometimes young kids have to walk for 2 to 3 hours to get to a school. Some of them carry their younger sister or brother or even babies on their back. Cattle will be left behind the grazing area and babies will be with them in the school.

In class room, teachers shout at them about the small baby in the class room and their straight answer is, “What to do when father is not at home and mother have many things to do ?”

During study period some time they go to grassing area to check on cattles and some time they play with babies in the class room. Students give one third of their time for study, one third for cattle and one third for babies. Student who does not have to carry baby with him, collects fire woods on the way to home from school. When school is off they collect all cattle from grazing area and go to their home with baby and cattle. Meanwhile if mother is not there they tie cattle in the sheds before mother comes. Sometime cattle like goat may lose in jungle or leopard may kill it, at that time mother will be very sad and she may shout at school child. Is there any opportunity to change such environment? Some time this child says oh God, why you gave me birth in such place where I have no time to learn some things in better ways?

It is a real life of students who attend school with cattle and babies in many parts of Nepal. They work so hard even at their tender age, making all leaders of this country feel like a coward!

Let us hope, future is coming with good things.

What a story of hardship ?Rural people of nepal work harder than the people in cities and inspite of years of democracy in the country nothing has changed the lives of those poor kids and their parents. Lots of poverty erradication plans corrupt goverment, useless political parties with on clear visions, and maoist gurrilas’s battles all poors are trapped in between while all of them are gaining there status and wealth. Nepalese kids are suffering not only because of poverty but also because they are neglected by the govt. Heros of nepal are the nepali kids and thats the truth.

yes, but that’s the truth. Nepal has to deal with poverty like any other third world country. In rich country, media is paid by the government to hide poverty, for example, you will never see homeless people living in American on CNN nor will you see similar people living in UK on BBC. Poverty is everywhere in the world !

Nepal hasn’t developed any further in last decade mainly due to political instability and ongoing war in the country.

Nepal’s most rural people live a very tough life. There is not enough food, no health care, no public water system, and no electricity, no roads.

Someone has to help poor people in Nepal.

Therea are lots of international organizations living mainly in the capital city Kathmandu, all are creating employment oppertunity for their own country. It’s a show off as an organization but the reality is creating employment for their own people. They haven’t done anything for Nepal’s development.

Many of you none nepalese will find this story very hard to believe. In fact this is a story of many of nepalese dads who after years of struggle in villages got migrated to cities for education and better life. Foot was the only choice for most transportations and jobs were cooking and cleaning and those who went to schools had to work in someones house as a servant as school was expensive and your father was broke. Ask any doctors engineer teachers about their childhood they will tell you this story. Many nepali youth today take things for granted. Need to learn some lesson from this story!
